Ive always been fascinated by Color. For me it was all about the placement of it, how it looked side by side on a canvas. It just made everything come together for me. Intrigued with artists like Delacroix, Cezanne, Martha Walters and John Singer Sargent whose use of painting alla prima, (a method of working directly on the canvas with a loaded brush,) made a direct impact on me. From abstract colorist to landscape artist my focus shifted from colorful, rich abstracts to sea and landscapes of rich blues and greens.
A clean slate always motivates me. My technique is distinguished by my ability to express mood with color. I am moved by color rather than composition. Each work begins with a simple drawn line stretched out, horizontally, from one end to the other. At first the line is to initially aid me in separating the sky from water; my intent is to coalesce.
Music is very important to me. Art is where all the players, colors, have a shared meeting place, the horizon, and are directed, or rather composed, by the brush.
